Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Memorial Weekend Upate

I had the opportunity to cruise the Operation Write Home Blog Hop and see so many inspiring creations and listen to some incredible stories of service men and women. I didn't list my blog for the hop since I am still getting the hang of this blogging thing. Maybe next time I will be able to as I get the hang of this.

I made some cards last night as you can see by the following post and intend to make more tonight as well. I am amazed at how many wonderful ideas were out there and some I will be re-visiting to CASE their creations for sure. I hope everyone that allowed us to hop through their blogs knows how much it was appreciated.

Now...... on to making those Red, White and Blue cards to send out this week!

Memorial Weekend

For me this weekend will be about making cards for Operation Write Home. Since I live in Canada, the holiday is not quite the same, at least as far as typical activities. I, however, am a VET and have many members of my family who have served, including a niece that just left Bagram AB, literally hours before the recent attack on the installation. I have no parades or services to attend... not even a barbeque celebrating the freedoms our service men and women have secured for me. But, this day is not lost on me. I know in my heart how precious it all is and so this weekend in honor of our troops far away and at home and from Canada who serve and die alongside Americans, I remember, I pray, I thank God and I make cards.

This first card is one I did not make but was sent to me by the President of Operation Write Home, Sandy Allnock. So many thanks to you, Sandy, and all your precious team that make this way of reaching out to our service men and women and their families they miss so dearly.

I will be adding to this post all weekend as I get the cards made. Have a blessed weekend!

Here we go!

Tag Challenge

This is my first EVER tag. Daniel put out a challenge on Stamp Haven for tags and this is my first attempt. When I asked what is the criteria, he said, paper with a hole in it. So, here is my paper with a hole in it. The tiny gold beads didn't scan well, maybe I can get a good picture in the sunlight tomorrow. Embee/Martha sent me the wonderful stamp set that I made this with, it is from Hampton Arts and the epoxy sticker is from Forever In Time. The die cut was sent to me by UtahAnn and I mounted it on cereal box cardboard for body.

Lightening Challenge: Armed Forces Day!

I have two cards to add to the Any Hero Challenge. The first looks a little pink, but, it really is a light red. This is lightening for me since I didn't even find out about it until late this evening. I didn't want to call it a day until I answered the call to the challenge. Making cards late at night is sometimes a bit scary!

MidWeek Throwdown: Rainy Day

First, I have to say that I am not so good at these type of cards. I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I think this is a great image and thank *Wink*Wink Ink for providing it for OWH cardmakers.

Thrifty and Pretty

I love this! Talk about thrifty! This is made from the packaging of the K&Co stickers. Much too pretty to waste.

Bricks and Dots

This was made from a lovely embossed background that I cut up, puffy K&Co stickers and the tiny gold dots are made with a stylus and craft paint.

Thank You #1

Utah Ann, this one is for you. Thank you for the thank you.

S&S Challenge #16

This was made from scraps sent to me by Kajikit.

Second Anniversary

Tomorrow is my second Anniversary of being married to my Canadian farmer/electrician. I made this card for him. It has been a rough two years moving out here to bare land. No services, no house, no corrals, no road....... nothing. It is a real test to be sure. I pray God will restore us to the dreams we shared that brought us to this place. And that He will strengthen our union and our bodies for what more lies ahead.

Pink Embossed Panel

See the pink embossed panel? That was a gift from UtahAnn. It was so lovely I had to just jump right in and make something. The wonderful ribbon came from Time For T. I think it is sweet.

Funny, Adorable, Sweet

This was made with an image from a swap and some items that Kajikit sent as a cardmaking challenge. The items from Kajikit are the sentiment and the large flower.

Forever Friends

This is one of my favorites. The challenge was to make something with pumpkins that didn't look like pumpkins. Here they are the background. The gals were from a ranching ad the sentiment I made on the computer and the black horse was a stamped image that I cut out.

Valentine #1

This was my first Valentine for OWH. Had a big learning curve to get past to make card sized layouts, but, I started getting the hang of it.

Stained Glass Angel

I found this image in a book of stained glass patterns. I know it isn't near Christmas yet, but, she was pretty and I can put her away for OWH.

Brown Tiles

These were bits of paper that I mounted on cardboard from cereal boxes and then again onto cardstock.

Beach Babe

I made this one last night while chatting with Debby. My goal was to get some loose stuff off the desk and look what happened!

Suzy's Friends

These are Suzy's Zoo stickers plus some bling for the flowers.

Monkey Birthday

This is the very first card I made for OWH. The image was from a cell phone add and I thought up the sentiment. It is still one of my favorite cards.

S&S Sketch Challenge #15

This first one is the Manly verson and the next is the feminine.

I was excited to receive a RAK of lace and die cuts from Time for T and had to set about making something. This is very different from most cards I make, but, I think it works.

Collage Woman

This is the last one for tonight. I really like this stamp embossed in clear gives it a nice shine without looking heavy. I added the color with chalks and the gold faux tabs make her look like she is framed.

OWH Rebel Challenge #8

The photo doesn't quite show the frame too well, it is a shiny metallic, two blue, two pink. And the background actually has a cool clear texture to it that is not solid, rather mottled.....looks good in real life.

OWH Rebel Challenge #7

I can't recall ever working so fast to get cards done! I am pleased how this one came out though.

OWH Rebel Challenge #6

My first ever posting on my first day of my blog and it is for OWH! Waa-Hoo!

First time blogging/learning

Hi, This is my very first attempt/learning day at blogging. I was encouraged to do this by my Best Friend Diana and my new friend from Stamp Haven, Debby. I hope to make this an outlet for my creative moments and some musings along the way. For today, baby steps....... learning how and what I might want to share. Thank you, Diana and Debby for encouraging me to step out of my tiny world. Lynn
