Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

MWT - Birthday Cards

This is a great Midweek Throwdown as it is wide open in layout, style, color, age and gender.  I had gotten this wonderful stamp just a little while back and tried it out on 3 different cards.  The box for OWH will have multiples of all three.  The red lace border is a Martha Stewart punch.

One a little masculine.

The border on this one is a cradstock sticker border from K&Co.  The twinkly leaves don't show up too well in the photo but I thought it made it look almost like lace.  Ha! It's early in the morning, it could just be that I need more coffee! LOL!

Design Bootcamp Day #1 - Monochromatic

I'm trying a second card in our color wheel class, monochromatic (and masculine!)  I didn't quite get the first one right so here is another one.  This was actually much easier since I just went with the colors of the patterned paper.  It is Graphic 45 two sided paper of which I used both sides and the top half is a parchment looking paper.  I want to try a 3rd card....... let's see if I can get to that one..... I got an idea.

OWH Design Bootcamp Day #1 and Sketch #16

This is the first day of this amazing Bootcamp being taught by Paula and the subject is Basic Color Theory.  There is a ton of information to be found here.  This is my attempt to follow the Analogous colors which are any three colors which are side by side on a 12 part color wheel.  I wasn't sure if I had to USE 3 colors or just use colors that would be considered side by side.... hm???  This is also using sketch #16 from the OWH Sketch library.

OWH Sketch Challenge #156

I'm so excited!  I got this one done the same day it was posted!  I just had no light to take the pic until today.  I love this paper!  It was a Christmas present and it is S.E.I. 12x12 pad called Field Notes.  ALL of the papers are sooooo gorgeous!  And who better to cut them up for than our Heroes!

This piece is a grey-blue with sort of a turquoise foil pattern.  The sentiment is Stampabilities and the flowers are K&Co. cardstock border stickers.  The gold mesh is a Michael's holiday ribbon.  LOVE the gold mesh!  I made 4 of these and started on another 4 with a different paper (to be posted later).

MWT - Show Us Your Green

This week's challenge is a color used on cards and it is to be green.  I'm not making St. Patrick's Day cards but I do love the greens in nature.  Playing with the new Cricut cartridge I got for Christmas.  I made 6 of these!

Cleaning the Pile!

Last night I was tinkering with some scrap cards when I saw Cindy's post using scraps.  I figure great minds are "gettin' after it"!  So instead of cleaning up the scraps on the table I dug around to find some more.  It is so funny when you find something you haven't seen in a while and get all kind of excited about it again.

Here are a few scrap cards with another bunch coming!

OWH Sketch #91

I'm pretty sure I have used this sketch before but when I was traveling this summer I had all but a very few supplies packed away.  Somehow I latched on to this sketch as one that was easy to cut and get bases all made up ahead and then could add embellishments and sentiments to later.  This is one of those bases.  I just loved the embossed flower/stars in this paper!

The sentiment is a cardstock sticker from Carolee's Creations, the center stud is Michael's brand and has a bit of foamy underneath.  Got 2 of these done.

ODBD January Challenge

Many thanks to the folks at Our Daily Bread Designs for sponsoring the shipping of 2 boxes per month to our Heroes if the cardmakers post 50 designs to their monthly challenge.  For January the challenge was to make a card using some dry embossing.

Birds and Butterflies - Sketch 145 - Midweek Throwdown

Edit to original post. (Timing is so funny.  I just made all these non-sentiment cards and that is the OWH MWT.) On this sunny Sunday afternoon I thought I would share some cards that are going in this next box to OWH.  They were inspired by sketch #145 on the Stars and Stamps blog.  This sketch is now one of my fav's!  I could make these all day long.

The above card is made with K&Co. cardstock sticker borders and 3-D birds and butterflies.  The birds and butterflies are not too thick and will fit in the envies just fine.

The copper looking border is a sticker I got from the dollar store and mounted on black.  I ended up making 9 of these all without sentiments for general cards.

This is a great sketch and there are some terrific samples on the blog for your inspiration as well. Happy Sunny Sunday (oops Monday, blogger uploading challenge)!

Midweek Throwdown Spring Flowers

The first challenge of the new year at OWH Stars and Stamps blog is to make a card with spring flowers.  On the heels of such a fun Top 10 event there should be lots of mo-jo flowing.  There were tons of great ideas worth CASEing or stirring the idea pot.
