Operation Write Home

I am currently making cards for Operation Write Home, which sends blank handmade cards to deployed servicemen and women. OWH is an amazing organization that ships thousands of cards each month to our nation's Heroes so they have something to write home on. Please check out the tag on the sidebar for more information on this inspiring mission. Please join me in supporting our men and women who sacrifice for us all.

Inspired Scrap Wrangling

For the past "little while" it seems I have been on a mission to use up the bits and pieces that are left over from card making.  These are a CASE of card for OWH from (I believe) last summer, made by Seongsook.   I made these a short time ago and decided to revisit the idea.

Just a note, I didn't have these square scraps in my pile.  They were cut from scraps, tossed in a pile and then put together like a puzzle.

I made much more than I took pictures of, but you get the idea.  It was actually a nice relaxing way to make some cards while watching a show.

OWH Sunday Sketch #44

Yay!  Another one checked off the list!  I am trying to work my way through the challenges I didn't get done when they were first issued.  Yes, I have a little book that tells me which ones I have and have not done.  This was sketch #44..... well, not exact, but very close.

The background paper is DCWV.  I popped the sentiment to help maintain the general thickness of the bow, the pearls and the sentiment.  I had one 12x12 sheet so this made 9 cards.  I think they could be used for Mother's Day or as a general card to send home to Mom.  :)

Sending Some Hello(s)

I had made a pile of these "Hello" cards using this digi sentiment from Create With TLC

I really like this sentiment since it can be used for just about any occasion.

These next 2 were also cleaning up the leftovers and used K&Co chipboard embellishments.

This is the same sentiment I used on the masculine cards a few posts ago.

Have a great Sunday and thanks for visiting!

OWH MWT - Color Challenge - Pastel

The OWH Midweek challenge is to bring on the pastel!  Last week's MWT was for Easter cards.
So, I did both in the same card and the yellow is for Sandy.  :)

And as a side note:  in keeping with the "use what's on the table" theme..... no new full sheets of paper were cut or harmed in the making of these cards.  The digi is from Create with TLC.

OWH Sunday Sketch #3

Today's card is using an old OWH sketch to use these papers and items from my leftovers piles.  There was enough to make 2 of these.  :)

OWH Sunday Sketch #164

I sure liked this one for a masculine themed card.  I made a pile of these.  The sentiment is a digi from Create with TLC.

OWH Sunday Sketch #175

I know it looks like I am just late posting this sketch.  I actually made it yesterday as a sketch I hadn't tried yet.  I have a lot of those...... ones I haven't tried yet.......... working on that.....AND more from the paper on the table.  :)  There was enough to make 2!

OWH Sunday Sketch #187

This isn't the sketch for this week.  Sketch 187 is just one I hadn't done yet so I thought I would give it a go.  I remember thinking this was going to be hard and then in a matter of minutes I had the papers picked out (from my pre-cut and scrap basket) and off it went!  I will have to keep this one in mind for future scrap wrangling!

Leftover Limes Challenge

In the previous post I had made 7 with the lime paper.  It would have been 8 but I made a mess out of one of them.  :(  Anyway, in trying not to add to the scrap pile I used the rest of the papers to make three of these.

OWH Sketch #207

Here is the OWH Sunday Sketch for today!  I'm so jazzed!  I got this one done on the day it came out.  I had wanted to use these 2 papers today because they looked kind of spring/summer-ish, but wasn't sure I could make it work for this sketch.  It is definitely different than any other card I think I've made.  :)

OWH Sketch 205 - By the Pile!

The OWH Sketch for Dec 29, 2013 is posted here
I liked it so much that I made these 11 cards.
The sentiment featured is a free digi from Paula.
All the hearts are made glossy with Dimensional Magic.
This is an awesome sketch for using up all that leftover paper still sitting on my table!
The red plaid on this last one is really cool in that the stripes are all shiny embossed.  Thanks for visiting!

ODBD January 2014 Challenge - Stripes!

Good afternoon and Happy New Year to all!  ODBD continues to be a strong partner with OWH in sponsoring the shipping of 2 boxes a month for any month that OWH cardmakers post 50 cards to the link.  This month the challenge is stripes.  How about stars and stripes?  I know the picture doesn't show it but the stripes are all shiny red.  Thanks ODBD!

Top 13 for 2013

Happy New Year!  Operation Write Home is having a bloghop!  What a fun way to start out the new year.  Just click HERE to take you to the start of the hop.

This year's Top 13 was a bit harder for me to choose since only about half of the ones chosen jumped up and said "pick me!"  So I decided to try to choose based on themes.

This first theme is sketch and this is OWH Sketch #91 and I liked it because of the simplicity of the design, well, and the DP's flowers were all shiny embossed and are totally yummy.

Theme #2 is OWH Design Bootcamp taught by Paula S. and the subject that month was the use of repetition, in this case being the dots and circle pattern.

Theme #3 is patriotic colors.  These snowflakes were perfect for red, white and blue bling!

Theme #4 is child/boy.  This was fun to make with the arrows all shiny and the die cut truck.

Theme #5 is child/girl.  This one was selected to be a sample for a MWT challenge calling for use of die cuts or punches.  The ballerina is a die cut.

Theme #6 is One Sheet Wonder.  This is just a sampling of the PILE of cards I made from ONE sheet.  The paper and other cards can be viewed here.  I made 25 cards from one 12x12 sheet.

Theme #7 is Cricut.  This lovely tapestry rose paper was perfect for this Cricut cut embellishment.

Theme #8 is new technique. This was a VCMP challenge that called for applying masking tape a surface (I used a piece of plywood), directly applying ink to the surface, then transfer the ink to the paper. LOVED this technique for snowflakes.

Theme #9 is Mom. Mom's deserve lots of flowers and bling!

Theme #10 is Dad.  I know this isn't super fancy but I liked the combination of elements especially the bamboo paper down the side.

Theme #11 is scraps.  While this was made from scraps of the brown DP I chose this one for the 3-knot ribbon treatment.

Theme #12 is colorful/cheerful.  I guess that kind of says it all, huh?

Theme #13 is winter.  I love this one so much I took an extra pic........ :)

And now for being so patient and sitting through this parade I have a small gift I would like to give away in a random drawing.  This stamp reminds me of how much time flies, when we are having fun or making cards or trying to beat those OWH deadlines!  :)

I will draw one winner on Jan 5th from those folks leaving comments on this post and will announce that winner on the Operation Write Home FB wall.  This year has been great fun with all you talented card makers and I look forward to seeing your wonderful, inspiring creations in the new year!
